You don’t really need to do a lot to create a space that is calming and relaxing. Even when you don’t have a lot of space, you can still make it a home that sparks joy.

Homes should be calming and relaxing. Who wants to come home to a house that looks stressful and dreary, right? Nobody wants a house that exacerbates the stress they feel when they are outside.

You don’t really need to do a lot to create a space that is calming and relaxing. Even when you don’t have a lot of space, you can still make it a home that sparks joy.

Try doing the following things:

1. Get rid of clutter.

Seeing clutter can instantly increase stress levels. If your surroundings are in a disarray, your mind won’t get the peace it needs. If you truly want to start making your home a relaxing place to live in, start by removing all your clutter. Go through all your things and see which of the things you have should be thrown away, recycled or donated. Let go of things that you haven’t used for years and keep those that bring you joy, and you know you will be able to use in the future.

Fold clothes neatly and tuck them away in drawers or cabinets. Dining ware should have their own space. Get rid of old and repetitive kitchen appliances, so you have more counter space. Donate some of the books you have that you haven’t read in a long time. It’s important to downsize, so you can free up more space.

2. Choose calm and neutral colors.

You can’t achieve a calming and peaceful environment if your wall colors are bold and bright. Choose a color that is a lot more neutral. Colors that are easy on the eyes evoke calmness. If you need help changing the wall colors of your home, get the help of painters in North Vancouver. We suggest hiring professional painters in North Vancouver as they can give you the best advice on which paint color to pick and what type of paint to use for specific parts of your home.

If you have an existing paint color that is dark and has been there for a long time, painters in North Vancouver will know how to prep the workspace, so that it is ready for a more neutral color palette.

3. Add plants.

Surround yourself with indoor plants. Many indoor plants have calming benefits and may even promote good sleep. You can set them in corners of the room. Ditch all those small decors and posters on the wall and decorate your space with plants instead.

4. Allow natural light to stream in.

Pick curtain that will allow more natural light to stream in. If you have the budget, you might also want to change your windows to bigger ones.

Change your space wisely. You decide which decors and additions will help bring more calmness and peace to your life.
