Kitchen knives are one of the most essential kitchen utilities used for food preparation. There are many specialized knives for designed for cutting, chopping, slicing, mincing, etc. The blade of kitchen knives can be made of stainless steel, carbon steel or ceramic.

Depending on material, every knife has its benefits over the other such as easier sharpening or heavier handle for greater precision. There are many techniques in using knives, usually depending on personal preference; most chefs grip the handle with all fingers, but for more precision grip on the blade of the knife can be used. For precise slicing, the tip of the knife remains in contact with the table while the handle is raised up and down, with food pushed under the blade.

For chefs special chef knives are fabricated to meet the high end demands of their profession. The Traditional Chef knife usually had a sharp blade that was eight inches long and one and a half inches wide. It was originally designed to slice and disjoint large pieces of meat. But, today a Chef knife is used in preparations of many exciting dishes and desserts. Also, there is broad range of chef knives available nowadays.
