Blinds between the glass are the courtesy of innovation extended to the window industry. In simple, it features blinds which are permanently sealed through a cavity, just like in uPVC windows. However, the technology is not exactly an innovation, it was first found in 1966. It’s worth and popularity exuded just a couple of years ago. MAC’S spokesperson said, “MAC uPVCs comply with the latest building regulations as they are installed with the appropriate and tailored double glass unit which aids efficiency”.
Today for the sake of the planet and heavy electricity bills, people have started devising various means for saving energy. So, the question that arises is - are window blinds energy efficient? To answer the question, you need to first understand what energy efficiency means in terms of windows.
Glasses mounted on windows and doors are transparent and light and, they can easily pass through them as glasses are poor insulators. Still, the industry has created a double-paned window, which traps the air between the two halves. This method was used for quite some time, but the market demanded more. The use of Low-E and argon glass is a more popular choice. The former propels by coating a thin metallic material to the window glass in order to enhance insulation, while the latter is an advancement in the basic double-paned method. The air is replaced with argon gas which is a superior insulator.
By using energy efficient material with low coefficient thermal expansion, topped with argon air, you get the best in the market. It is best for insulation purposes but to get the ultimate efficiency Low-E coating is the ideal things. Now to break the myth, there is no way a blind without the Low E glass does not increase the efficiency at all. In fact, putting integrated blinds between the glass actually limits the amount of argon gas, compromising the overall energy efficiency of the window set. Blinds are only helpful in shading the sunlight and does not aid much in energy efficiency. There is no way that blinds between glass can actually absorb or reflect sunlight, it can just block it. Only Low-E is capable of actually radiating heat back to its source and hence aiding in energy efficiency.
