The PainSumo Podcast Educates People on How They Can Improve Sleeping Patterns During the Pandemic

Gavin Armstrong of Pain Sumo offers tips on getting healthy and sound sleep amid the pandemic chaos.

To be dated: Though the COVID-19 pandemic has subsided in most parts of the world, many people are still struggling with its consequences—sleeping disorders being one of them.

Disrupted routines, increased anxiety and depression, isolation from loved ones, work stress, fear of contracting the virus, excessive screen time at home, and stress-related fatigue are the major contributors to sleeping disorders during this pandemic.

Considering the significance of sound sleep in leading a happy and healthy life, Pain Sumo has launched a series of podcasts to educate people on how they can improve their sleep amid the trying times.

PainSumo is an online chronic pain management program that focuses on the three pillars of healthy life—Sleep, Movement, and Breath—to alleviate musculoskeletal pain. Gavin Armstrong and Ross developed this 30-day exercise program after 25 years of research, trials, and errors. Ross has over 20 years of experience in the sports industry, and Gavin has served as a movement and analysis specialist for 5 years. With their collective knowledge, expertise, and research, they identified that most people struggling with musculoskeletal imbalances had an unhealthy lifestyle that was far from adequate sleep, movement, and meditation.

Their podcasts go by the name “Improve Your Sleep 10x”, “7 Tools to Use to Become a Champion Sleeper”, and “5 Ways to Enhance Sleep During Coronavirus.” In their podcast, Gavin talked about how the coronavirus affects sleep cycles and how people can sleep better to live a pain-free, happier, and healthier life. He said, "While some of us have embraced the new normal, many people are still struggling to adapt to the new lifestyle. Increased anxiety and stress levels, lack of physical activities, and more time spent in front of the screens take a toll on their circadian rhythms."

Gavin further talked about how poor sleeping patterns can affect the over health.

"Sleep is extremely crucial for your overall wellbeing. You work and move the entire day, and the only time your muscles, joints, and organs replenish is when you close your eyes for sleep. Inadequate sleep can lead to memory issues, mood swings, concentration problems, increased risk of diabetes, weight gain, high blood pressure, low sex drive, poor posture, and bone balance, and increase risk of cardiovascular diseases,” he added.

According to Gavin, avoiding blue light from phones, laptops, TV, and other screens late in the evening, limiting food intake—especially processed food—before bed, having a cool and comfortable bedroom, wearing a sleep mask, turning off Wi-Fi from your phone and keeping it outside the room before sleeping can all improve sleep during the pandemic.
