Dallas, Texas – Personal injury lawyer Tim O’Hare believes any month is the right month to take a refresher course on how to replace distracted driving habits with solid, safe driving practices. Since April is Distracted Driving Awareness Month, O’Hare and the National Safety Council direct motorists’ attention to the Council’s free 45-minute online driving safety course from April 15 through April 21.
“We truly care about our clients, and we fight hard for them – like they are members of our own family,” says O’Hare. As a professional who has worked for many injured clients, O’Hare wants to reiterate the dangers of driving while distracted, whether it is due to cell phone use or other diversions. The U.S. statistics are staggering:
• 64% of car accidents involved motorists distracted by cell phones
• Almost 421,000 people suffered injuries in accidents by distracted drivers
• Over 78% of these distracted drivers were texting
• Texting and driving causes a motorist to spend 400% less time paying attention to the road than alert drivers do
This public health concern, which claimed 40,000 lives last year in the U.S., prompted lawmakers in Texas and elsewhere to pass new laws restricting cell phone use while operating a motor vehicle. It is illegal in Texas and beyond to text while driving.
“This course is an excellent safety resource for all drivers, but can be especially useful for teenage drivers. If you have young drivers in your home, consider signing them up to take this course,” says O’Hare.
