Suhel Seth Quarantine Stories: How the Celebrated Author Takes One Day at a Time

The world has been hit hard by the coronavirus in unprecedented ways.

It began in Wuhan, the central city of China, and now has set base in over 180 countries around the globe. Nations have gone under complete lockdown and got everyone confined to their homes. Being locked up is not something the people of the 21st century are comfortable with. With the pace of life and freedom that everyone was accustomed to, staying put in one place with no contact with the outside world is a difficult task.

This new, slow-paced life has brought out varied perspectives on how to remain positive during the lockdown. While many are busy working from home, some are enjoying family time rarely available in today’s time and age. Those with an abundance of time on their hands are exploring their creative sides, adding feathers to their cap, and then there are some who are enjoying taking one day at a time. Joining the bandwagon of the last set of people is columnist, actor, and management guru, Suhel Seth.

The founder and managing partner of consultancy firm Counselage India, Suhel Seth pens down how he spends his time on a daily basis. In his notes for 25th March, Suhel describes how he sat in front of the television with a bottle of wine, awaiting the Prime Minister’s 8 PM address. The announcement of the 21-day lockdown got him up and acting. To quote, “As he was speaking, rushed to the car and then drove around looking for any open wine and beer shops but there were mile-long queues: the Mother Dairy outlets hardly had anyone but then is one supposed to live on milk alone when one can submerge his sorrows in wine? Came back home very desolate.”

As the days passed, Suhel describes how after a few days of laidback indulgence he got himself up and running coming to the conclusion that the lockdown could not be dealt with Modi and Wine alone. He describes his time spent with his wife and following the same routine day after day. Enjoying a book or two along with a few drinks to keep him company, Suhel provides a hilarious description of his thoughts and events during the lockdown. On April 1st he writes “The usual folks refer to it as Fool’s Day but for some serious-minded people like me, it is also the day when the Central Bureau of Investigation in India was founded (or raised as they say) so the day has some significance and making fun would be at your own peril. I started the day by paying a silent ode to the CBI and all the wonderful work they’ve done.”

Ending his note by describing these are uncertain times, Suhel asks everyone to follow the hygienic guidelines for keeping clean and away from harm!
