5 effective ways to prevent diaper rashes in babies

Babies are easily prone to diaper rashes due to their sensitive skin. Here are 5 simple ways to prevent diaper rashes and keep your little one happy and comfortable.

Dubai, UAE – Baby diapers are a safe and convenient product that millions of parents rely on worldwide. As much as these diapers help parents keep their little dry until they are potty trained, it’s important to exercise some caution in the way you use them to keep diaper rashes away.

Diaper rashes are a common and easily treatable form of irritated skin. If your little one has developed these rashes, you will see patches of inflamed skin on your baby’s bottom. “Diaper rashes often occur due to wet or infrequently changed diapers,” says Dr. Medhat Abu-Shaaban, one of the best pediatricians in Dubai and Medical Director of myPediaclinic. “Babies also have naturally sensitive skin as compared to older children and adults and can be more prone to chafing, leading to rashes.”

If your baby has developed diaper rashes, he may have inflamed skin on and around the buttocks, thighs, and genitals, tender skin, and sores in the diaper area. Babies show discomfort by being extra fussy or crying, especially during diaper changes.

Most diaper rashes can be easily treated at home by wiping and air drying the baby’s bottom, changing diapers frequently, and using a diaper rash cream/ointment. If your little one’s skin doesn’t seem to improve even after these home remedies, or if they develop a fever, it’s best to see a kid’s specialist in Dubai. Your pediatrician will be able to provide prescription medication to help heal the rash.

“When it comes to diaper rashes, the best way to go about is prevention,” continues Dr. Medhat.

To prevent diaper rashes, your kid’s doctor will recommend the following tips-
During diaper changes, always let your baby’s skin dry before putting on a new one. Gently pat the skin dry with a soft cloth to not irritate the skin.
Change your baby's diapers frequently. Ideally, you should change the diaper every 2 hours or after every bowel movement.
Change your baby’s wet or soiled diapers as soon as possible to keep their skin clean and dry. You may also apply diaper creams if your baby has really sensitive skin.
Choose a diaper size that fits comfortably. If your baby’s diapers are too snug around their thighs and waist, it could be uncomfortable for them and cause chafing. If your little one is between sizes, always choose the bigger diaper size.
You should occasionally soak your baby’s bottom in warm water, preferably between diaper changes. You can either scoop water over his bottom or squeeze water from a bottle to gently wash your little one.

Diaper rashes are easily preventable by following these simple rules. Let your little one grow happy and comfortable in your loving care.
