Gurgaon, 18th October 2020: The students of Amity Global, a premium IGCSE school in Gurugram, seem to be enjoying Maths as a subject as they study at home. They have been demonstrating new ways to make problem-solving easy in this usually complex subject.

The school has recently shared videos and pictures of some primary year programme (PYP) students demonstrating simplified tips and tricks for multiplication. The methods explained by the students include Lattice Multiplication, Repeated Addition and breaking numbers into smaller parts.

By using the whiteboard or simple paper and pencil, these children can confidently explain mathematical concepts, proving that they truly are active learners as mentioned in the IB profile.

Most of the schools in Gurgaon and other cities of India have not yet opened in wake of the precautionary measures for COVID-19. This means that students are still attending their virtual classes.

However, this novel approach to learning has not diluted the dedication of PYP students of the top international schools in Gurgaon – they are paying attention to their teachers’ instructions and practising the lessons from each class.

Some other posts shared by Amity Global School on its Facebook page also show the children’s recent progress with their History lessons. Grade 4 students have been learning about explorations through time and have made colourful timelines that depict important events from the lives of Christopher Columbus and Marco Polo.

As an IB school, Amity actively employs teaching methodologies through which children can corroborate their learning of concepts. Instead of memorising chapters from text books with rote method, they actually understand the central idea behind each tutorial and then explain it in their own words. This allows them to remember things more effectively for a longer period.

Even though the schools have been closed since March, I do not think 2020 - 2021 will be a zero academic year because Amity Global School is actually teaching our children very well and they are making definite progress. I can also correspond with the teachers easily to know more about the continuity of the curriculum.”
