Many nations from all around the world are united to fight against ISIS. It has been declared that ISIS is the enemy for every country and nation, therefore, continuous hunting toward ISIS participants in every part of the globe. While the world leaders are mostly doing their fight diplomatically and politically, some people decided to fight against ISIS differently. He is Steve Maman, a businessman from Montreal who decided to dedicate much of his time and effort to help and save young women and children from ISIS. What he did remind people about Schindler, the one who managed to save thousands of Jews from holocaust decades ago. For that cause, it’s no wonder if many called him “The Jewish Schindler”.

Steve Maman has started a project named the Liberation of Christian and Yazidi Children of Iraq or also known as C.Y.C.I. Through the years of planning and careful execution, the project has successfully saved thousands Yazidi and Christian Women and Girls from sex slavery. When asked about his motivation for doing everything all the way around the grey area of international law, he stated that he want to return the favor to those who helped his people during the holocaust years ago. “What motivated me is very simple…being Jewish, being part of a people that actually survived the Holocaust…we for six years waited for people to actually answer the call and come and help us,” Maman said to “As It Happens” guest host, Matt Galloway.

Based on the study conducted by the United Nations, there are thousands of women and young girls were taken captive and sold into sex slavery. Some of these women are also taken as brides by ISIS fighters, to which according to many witnesses they have treated nothing better than sex slaves. And to answer the call, Maman decided to start the project 8 months ago to this day.
“I decided myself, with the Yazidi and the Christians that were suffering in the caliphate that it was already too many months that had gone by without reaction.” He also adds, “I was going to use the contacts I had on the ground in Iraq and the government contacts…I was going to put those to work and try to put together a plan…to start removing those children from harm’s way and I wasn’t going to wait for the world to react.” Together with the team, Maman is confident that their project will gain more and more participants as well as donations from all around the world so they can save more women and children across the Iraq in the future.
