Los Angeles, CA The hilarious indie comedy “Assisted Fishing” was launched 2 weeks ago on Vimeo's new VOD platform. Utilizing social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter, indie film-maker Joe Crouch was able to get the word out about this fun for the whole family comedy. Vimeo joins other ventures like Amazon on demand, Hulu, iTunes, Distrify, and Youtube which allow the independent film-maker to bypass traditional film distribution companies and sell directly to the consumer.

“Assisted Fishing” won several awards during its festival run, including:
"Best Comedy Feature" at the American Independent Film Festival
"Best Editing" at the Sunset Film Festival
"The Diamond Award" at the California Film Awards
"The Golden Ace Award" at the Las Vegas Film Festival

When asked about the film's skyrocketing popularity, Crouch said, “Vimeo VOD is just one of the many platforms that 'Assisted Fishing' is on. It's exciting to see it doing so well, I'm glad people can easily find and watch the film online.”

With its slapstick comedy and heartfelt storyline, “Assisted Fishing” is another example of a changing film industry. “Veronica From Mars” creator was able to find funding on Kickstarter. Film Studios may find themselves going the way of the record labels as the a new model allows for an indie film-maker to raise the money through crowd-funding and sell the final product through streaming VOD.
