With everyday items using lithium, Lithium Extraction Works’ Chief Executive Officer says that Latin America has the opportunity to become the leading energy suppliers globally.

All the global electronics manufacturers use lithium compounds across numerous applications, with the smartphone industry a major consumer, as the smartphone industry needs lithium to manufacture the lightweight batteries required for smart devices.

Lithium Extraction Works’ Chief Geological Officer, Mr. Bruce McArthur commented on the lithium reserves saying “The demand for lithium is ever increasing. The automobile industry is seeking alternative sources of lithium to meet the increasing demand for electric and hybrid vehicles. The world’s population has been reliant on fossil fuels as its primary source of energy but in recent years, global attention has shifted to a new and valuable resource, lithium.”

“Latin America holds over 80% of the world’s lithium reserves in Argentina, Bolivia and Chile and holds the promise of sustaining the worlds energy supplies when fossil fuels are extinct, but as with fossil fuels, lithium will also have a limited quantity. Lithium is now dubbed the grey gold of the fast emerging electrical vehicles sector because it is light weight and stores energy for longer periods,” added Bruce McArthur, Chief Geological Officer of Lithium Extraction Works.
