West Hartford, CN – Dr. Lisa Berzins, a practicing clinical psychologist in West Hartford, received the Marcus Brown Memorial Award for Exceptional Contribution to Integrative Medicine from Connecticut Valley Hospital. This award is in honor of Dr. Berzins’ continued service to clinical psychology, past and present.

This is not Dr. Berzins’s first major award. In October 1996, she received the Award for Distinguished Psychological Contribution in the Public Interest from the Connecticut Psychological Association. This award came on the coattails of her activist work at the same time. During the 1990s, Dr. Berzins was a nationally recognized advocate for transparency in the diet industry. This work led to her drafting of two acts of Connecticut legislation requiring complete disclosure from manufacturers regarding their claims. These were the first laws of their kind in the United States.

More recently, Dr. Berzins published an article in the International Journal of Forensic Mental Health, “The Development and Implementation of Dialectical Behavior Therapy.” This publication was the result of a half-decade project collaborating with psychologists at the University of Connecticut Health Center in Farmington. She also served as an adjunct faculty member at the University of Hartford from 1998 to 2016.

Speaking about her most recent award, Dr. Berzins stated “I’m honored that Connecticut Valley Hospital decided to award me this honor. I’m proud to have served the greater Connecticut medical community, and hope to continue working with the doctors and staff of the region in the future.”
