Irving, TX – Recent trends are showing a significant increase in the number of cancer patients during the past couple decades.Astudy conducted in the year 2016predictsthat the number of cancer patients in the United States, who receivedradiation therapy, will reach3.38 million by 2020 and 4.17 million by 2030.

“The cancer treatments vary depending on the patient’s type and level of cancer.” says Dr. Gregory Echt, founder and lead surgeon at the Las Colinas Cancer Center. “Radiation Therapy, also known as radiotherapy or X-ray therapy, is one the most common treatments used for treating cancer.”

The cancer cells in a patient’s body continuously grow and divide at a much higher pace than theydo to produce normal cells. Radiation therapy works by using particle beam gamma rays, x-rays or electron beams tokill the cancer cells.

Chemotherapy affects the whole body, taking down not only the cancer cells, but also the healthy cells. Whereas, radiation treatment targets the affected area where the cancer cells are in the body.The nearby “good cells” are also affected by the radiation but soon regenerate.
