KoreaGraph to test development of non-toxic Graphene enhanced protective coatings

SEOCHO-GU/SEOUL - KoreaGraph today announced that it is pleased to start testing the development of graphene-enhanced marine coatings to prevent corrosion for marine equipment.

KoreaGraph have developed a graphene powder which has a protective coating due to graphene’s excellent chemical resistance, thermal characteristics, anti-bacterial properties and strength.

KoreaGraph’s latest project has been developing a series of graphene-enhanced marine coatings to limit the growth of marine organisms on ocean equipment and to reduce fuel consumption of vessels through the reduction of drag forces.

KoreaGraph’s Chief Technology Officer commented on the new marine coatings saying “So far, we are pleased with our initial testing which consists of a layer of graphene which offers improved resistance to fouling and corrosion, even with a minor amount of dispersed graphene. This is important as the graphene works as an anti-corrosive to prevent the growth of barnacles, mussels, and other organisms which can damage marine equipment.”

KoreaGraph’s Chief Technology Officer also added “We will conduct additional tests based on the results of the anti-corrosion testing. This will include testing of de-icing properties and the differences of thermal expansion. We will also be testing coatings using copper, steel and other marine toxins. We expect these chemical tests to take approximately 6 weeks.”
