Dr Rafael Manon Celebrates Seven Years at MD Anderson Cancer

Radiation oncologist and director of research Rafael Manon celebrates seven years of contributing to the improvement of cancer treatment at the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Orlando, FL.

 
Dr Rafael Manon is pleased to announce that this year he will be celebrating his seventh anniversary of joining the radiation oncology team at the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Orlando, FL. Rafael Manon joined the team at MD Anderson, which is consistently ranked as one of the top cancer centers in the country by US News & World Reports, after completing his residency in radiation oncology at the University of Wisconsin at Madison, where he was chief resident.
“I’m very happy to be working at such an innovative cancer center with such an incredible team of colleagues,” said Rafael Manon. “I’m practicing medicine with some of the top specialists in the country, with an amazing nursing staff, and a fabulous research department. I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.”
Since he began working at the MD Anderson Cancer Center nearly seven years ago, Rafael Manon has been elevated to the post of director of research for the radiation oncology department. Along with his colleagues, Rafael Manon has been researching and publishing on the use of technologically based imaging techniques to improve the targeting of tumors in radiation therapy, and reduce the risk of side effects as a result of improved treatment precision. This year, under the watch of Rafael Manon, the MD Anderson Cancer Center is installing the nation’s eleventh proton therapy center, which will use a superconducting synchrocyclotron proton accelerator to shrink tumors with an incredibly precise beam of charged protons.
In addition to his research duties, Rafael Manon treats patients using high-tech treatment techniques, and has excellent success rates in the treatment of head, neck, gynecologic, and lung cancer. Rafael Manon is well known for his bedside manner, and is known to be one of the best doctors to work with for nurses. In 2010, Rafael Manon’s nursing staff nominated for him for the Exemplary Physician Colleague Award, given each year by Orlando Health, which he successfully took home.
In terms of his future at the MD Anderson Cancer Center, Rafael Manon remarked, “I’m very excited to see what the future will bring for the development of cancer treatments. We’ll be able to being treating patients with at the proton therapy center in 2014, and imaging techniques are improving every year as technology improves in all fields.”
