Ketoconazole works by interfering with cell membranes of fungal cells. It stops the generation of a compound called as Ergosterol in fungal cells. Ergosterol is an important component of the cell walls of the fungi. Cell walls are vital for fungal cells as they protect the cells from invaders and stop the leaking out of cell contents.
Ketoconazole stops generation of ergosterol, thus causing holes to appear in the cell walls. This results in leaking out of cell contents and killing of the fungal cells. Thus, Ketoconazole targets the fungal cells and destroys them.

Ketomac cream is a skin fungus cream which prevents fungus from growing on skin. It can be used to treat yeast and fungal infections on the human body. It is used to topically treat cutaneous candidiasis caused by Candida spp. It is used to treat athlete’s foot (Tinea Pedis), jock itch (Tinea cruris), Ring worm (Tinea Corporis) as well as flaking, dry skin and inflammatory condition of the skin with scaly, red and greasy areas (seborrheic dermatitis).

There is a particular way to use the cream. Clean and pat dry the affected area. Apply a thin layer of the cream upon it. Apply enough to cover the affected area and some surrounding skin. Do not bandage, cover or wrap the treated skin unless advised so by your doctor. Wait for at least 20 minutes after applying this medication before using sunscreen or cosmetics on the impacted area. Take care to not wash the area for 3 hours after applying cream. The cream is used typically for only 2 to 4 weeks.
