Rare black clay pottery, is now available online and can be ordered and sent worldwide through the Oaxacan Connection.

Sparks, Nevada, USA - Extremely rare black clay pottery is now available for purchase through The Oaxacan Connection’s website. Formerly only available to tourists who made the trip to all the way to the southern parts of Mexico, these pieces of art, created by the area’s native people, can now be bought and sent nearly anywhere in the world. Available items range from vases and amphorae to wall art and table decorations. This special clay may have a natural deep black or brown tone, though some pieces are painted in bright, lively colors.

The properties of this one-of-a-kind clay, which produces this singular pottery, have been known to the Zapotec tribe of Mexican natives for more than a thousand years. However, sometime in the 1950′s, a potter named Dona Rosa gave this Mexican pottery increased versatility. She discovered that in addition to the two colors that the clay produced depending on how it was fired, a high gloss finish could be added by simply rubbing the pots with quartz.

Dona Rosa spent over 80 years of her life creating black clay pottery, all the while passing this knowledge down to her children and grandchildren. Her descendants, along with other area artisans work to keep her discoveries alive. The decorative Mexican pottery produced is unlike anything else. With a variety of designs and colors, these unique pieces can add ambiance to a home, office or any other space which needs an extra something.

While there are many places which sell Mexican pottery, only one place sells the pots created by Dona Rosa’s family, many of whom learned their techniques directly from this inspiring woman. The true ambiance provided by this pottery comes not only from the natural beauty of its extremely rare clay, but its rich and storied history.

The Oaxacan Connection is a distributor of the decorative pottery created by the Oaxacan natives, and much of the production is overseen by Dona Rosa’s descendants. A full catalog of available items and online shipping is available on their website, along with pictures and stories about Dona Rosa and the history of the black clay.
