The episode soon makes it clear that although divorced, all love is not lost between the exes. The story emphasizes second chances in love, depicting that despite past circumstances and existing hurdles, two people can still reconnect and enter a loving relationship.

The episode shows him outside the shop picking a ring that Liz had liked but which wasn’t her size. He gets the ring from Irish Jewel resized for her and originally plans on gifting it the night she tells him she has cancer. Towards the end of the episode, we see Van give Liz the ring at the hospital, not necessarily as a proposal, but as a token of love and commitment, signifying second chances.”
