Eye color can be changed by wearing contact lenses that does not require any surgery for the eye. But some people are not satisfied with the results of temporary changes.

So they go for the permanent eye color change solution which is iris implant surgery and laser surgery.

Firstly, iris implant surgery was developed by the doctors to repair and replace the iris in the patient eye whose iris is damaged or suffering from some medical conditions. But as this procedure can provide an eye a new color, it is adopted for cosmetic reasons now. People who get bored with their old eye color and want a new look in the eye, underwent this surgery to change their eye color.

In iris implant technique, an artificial iris is placed over the old iris by the doctors and it will take 2-3 weeks to change the eye color of the person. Artificial iris is made of biocompatible materials which are also used in contact lenses and safe enough for the eye. It is a thin ad flexible iris which is inserted and folded to fit on the top of the eye by making a small cut in the cornea. Then doctors unfold it under the eye.

This procedure is not approved for the patients who have perfect iris and vision is fine. Doctors in U.S. trail to make sure of no side effects while making surgery. Many risks are associated with implantation that includes-

• Partial vision loss or Blindness
• Swelling in the cornea
• Cataracts
• Glaucoma
• Injury to the cornea
• Eye inflammation

Another technique of eye color change surgery is low laser surgery. If you have brown eyes and wished for blue eyes than you can go for low laser surgery. This surgery removes the brown pigment called melanin from the upper surface of the eye and hidden under brown pigment there is always a blue colored eye. When melanin is safely removed the blue color appears in the eye. The color can be blue or gray, it just depends on the amount of melanin a patient’s iris has. The laser only targets the thin layer of melanin to remove while avoiding the pupil, as it is the structure of the eye that contains the nerves that regulate vision.

This procedure is a non-surgical that eliminates the associated risks. Once the melanin from the eye is removed, it cannot return back, so the change is permanent. When you received your desired eye color then this procedure can’t be repeated to get back your old eye color.

After any of the applied surgery, if the patient observes any discomfort in the eye such as itchiness, pain or swelling, then you should immediately see a doctor for the consultation.
