How Does The Building Management Systems Function?

This is the functioning of the whole building management system. This article is all about a detailed knowledge of the whole system.

A building management system (BMS) is designed to check and manage the mechanical, electrical, and electromechanical services in a building. Power, heating, ventilation, air-conditioning, physical access control, pumping stations, elevators, and lights are some of these services.

A very basic building management system consists of a software, a server with a database, and a smart sensor with a connection to the Internet-capable network. Smart sensors around the building collect data and send it to the BMS. Then the data gets stored in a database. If there is any report about data by the sensor that does not fit the pre-defined conditions, the BMS will ring an alarm.

Whether BMS software can be installed as a standalone application or can be integrated with other monitoring programs is decided by the system. More advanced BMSes can look after and manage a wide range of building services across various platforms and protocols and serve facility administrators with a single, shared view of the facility's operations.

No matter if it is a large boiler plant or a mid-sized office building, this is a good way you can keep track of and control its various systems. The building management systems (BMS) are called building automation systems (BAS).

The HVAC, heating, and ventilation systems are also in control of building management systems and it also has some other functions as well. The main elements of a building management system in addition to its basic functionalities are as follows:

Boiler controls—keeps a steady temperature and switches boilers on/off at certain times.
HVAC—keeps a particular air stability with regard to temperature and humidity; control fans and dampers; control air handling units and fan coil units.
Lighting control—turn lights on/off according to a particular schedule.
Electric power control—control and monitor main electrical and mechanical tools.
Many building management systems even have more features. Typically this software can oversee and manage a central server or servers, monitoring stations (for systems administrators), and remote sensors.
