The project’s aim is to facilitate the vocational integration of the young cinema-makers into the international professional environment in order to fully grasp the enormous opportunities, provided by the Cannes Film Festival, for their creative development.

The day after the opening of the Cannes Film Festival, theWithin the framework of the project "In short, Cannes" the organizing committee has selected 10 (ten) young Ukrainian directors, who had already proven themselves during national and international film festivals. Due to the financial support of the Iankovskyi Foundation and NGO “The Initiative for the Future”, they received an opportunity to visit France and take part in the 69th Cannes Film Festival by presenting their movies personally in the Short Film Corner section of the Marché du Film.

The project reunited the following participants: Nariman Aliev – the participant of 2016 year’s edition of the Berlin Film Festival; Kateryna Hornostai – the triumphant participant of the International Kyiv Film Festival “Molodist”, Odessa International Film Festival and Wiz-Art Film Festival; Maryana Lytvynova – participant of the Wiz-Art Film Festival; Philip Sotnichenko – the winner of FIPRESCI award; Pavlo Ostrikov - director of the best film according to «oKino.ua» rating and the prize-winner of “The Open Night” Film Festival; Nikon Romanchenko - the winner of the National Contest under the “Molodist” International Kyiv Film Festival; Rita Kuzmina - the triumphant participant of “The Open Night” Film Festival; Yurii Shylov - the prize-winner of VGIK (Russian State University of Cinematography n.a. The project’s beneficiaries are being instructed by the representatives of the Oleksandr Dovzhenko National Cinema Center, who possess the participation experience in festival events, being conscious of all their ins and outs. Some consultations have been provided by the representatives of the French Institute of Ukraine and Odessa International Film Festival. «Short Film Corner» is the section under the Marche du Film, a market-based area of the Cannes Film Festival.

“We are continuously promoting the young Ukrainian cinema-makers both in Ukraine and abroad. According to our extensive experience in this field, it is important not only to financially secure the participation of the creative youth in international film festivals, but to instruct them on the most effective ways of seizing the opportunities of such trip in matters of finding new international partners and promoting their projects to the world’s cinema market. All these actions in synergy will provide an important momentum for the development of Ukrainian cinema!” – according to Igor Iankovskyi, founder of the National charity foundation “The Initiative for the Future” and NGO “The Initiative for the Future”.

«Short Film Corner» plays an important part in the distribution and marketing of the short-movie industry on the international cinema market. It provides an efficient communication tool for the film-makers from all-around the world, which helps to establish useful contacts with films’ distributors and producers, gain some support for the project under preparation. Thus, the «Short Film Corner» section could be of a considerable help, particularly for the young cinema-makers.

Ukraine will present 40 (forty) pictures in total under this year’s «Short Film Corner» section, both of Ukrainian and collaborative production.

«Short Film Corner» is an indispensable tool to gain some experience for the further development of personal liaisons on Marche du Film.
