Waffle makers are templates used in manufacturing of biscuits. They have two hinged iron plates molded to form a honeycomb design on the dough. The metal used in manufacture is stainless and durable to ensure quality of the biscuits. In processing, the iron is heated and batter or dough poured between the plates, which are closed to bake the waffle.

The traditional Waffle irons had tongs held over open flame. With the rapid technological advancements, the irons are made in self-standing tabletop appliances, connected to electricity (Electric waffle). The electric models are made with non-stick material that allows easy removal of cake. They are also heated with automatic heat sensors that regulate the devices temperature. In these equipments, the safety is guaranteed.
