HR Tech Evangelist, Karan Jain, HROne Shares His Two Cents On Alternatives To Layoffs

The lockdown has adversely affected the economy of our country. As a repercussion of the same, many companies including industry leaders like Uber, Swiggy and more are reacting to it by laying off their dear employees. Every other day we have seen such depressing news and numbers on social media platforms and television screens. So, recently, the cofounder of HROne Karan Jain decided to address this and talk about the alternatives.

Several points that he emphasized on throughout the live were-

Exchange worker with other employers
Keep working remotely and save office costs (great if you have a rented space)
Redesign your workweek and the policy pertaining to introduce shorter work week
Offer them extra unpaid leaves (more than their remaining balance)
Slack down the extra costs like overtime. bonuses and raises
Do a justifiable amount of salary cut and don’t cut any amount from the salary of people who are already low earning.

When we asked him a question by the end of the session as to why he wanted to address this and how is it even in the favour of businesses, he replied with a futuristic answer, “ I believe it is a tough time for not just economy/ businesses but humans/employees as well. Both depend on each other and thus need to be there equally. Laying off people from your companies may seem to be the right decision right now, it is not. Neither as a man nor as a human, this is going to prove to be a good disaster management/preparedness strategy. In the short run, it is going to risk litigation, reduce productivity as the existing employees will have low morale. In the long run, the cost and time involved in recruiting and training the new hires may even cross your current loss.”

He further added, “ the times are tough for all of us but we can all sail through this together if we act wisely and be considerate of each other. In case if none of the points I talked about seem to be doable currently for your business, make sure you are transparent with your employees about the losses”
The CXOs and HRs who attended the live session took notes and thanked for all the enlightenment on the topic and sharing the alternate ways.

Before ending the session, he also mentioned that at HROne they have always believed in benefitting everyone in the organisation be it, employees, CXOs, HRs through their product and have also put great care to be one of the great places to work for their staff. And so, he & his team are working on an e-book that will be released soon talking about ways to handle undesirable situations, future of work, remote work model commandments, policies and the ways to gain back trust, and loyalty of employees through effective communication.

“We are sure it will be even more insightful than the live and I am eagerly waiting,” said one of the attendee by the end with many other to convey their thanks.

About HROne:

The foundation was laid for the company back in 2013 with an aim to automate functions and engage employees through their HR software. Till now, HROne has successfully automated HR functions for more than 250+ companies, however, they later realised that there is more to the picture, as there is still scope for scaling up and climbing the ladder up. Hence, they decided to associate with the alumnus of IIT, and other glorified institutions to make their product the best of the best. So, HROne- Inbox for HR was introduced and collectively the company has 3,00,000+ satisfied users and 350+ happy clients in more than 18+ industries.
