Beautiful Handmade Sandals Provide Employment and Empowerment for Girls and Women in East Africa
USA, July 11, 2017- Her Best Foot Forward sandals are handmade by women Artisans in East Africa, providing them with meaningful employment and empowerment through creative expression and the understanding that their talents are appreciated around the world.
Beyond creating this social good for the women who make Her Best Foot Forward sandals, proceeds from the sale of the handmade leather sandals are re-invested in vetted, sustainable charities focused on the empowerment of East African girls and women. The charitable focus of our US-based 501c3 social venture includes areas vital to the health, success, and wellness of girls and women in East Africa, including:
1. Sustainable clean water projects: Beyond improved health and a reduction in childhood death, access to clean water means the women and girls tasked with gathering it have the opportunity to lead productive lives. Reducing the distance to water by 15 minutes results in a 12% increase in girls’ school attendance!
2. Facilitating the education of girls: The saying goes: “When you educate a girl, you educate a nation,” and the statistics support that educated girls are a major factor in reducing extreme poverty for the next generation.
3. Investing in the health of women and children: Simple, basic health care – vaccinations, well woman visits, sanitary products – provide both dignity and opportunity and allow children to attend school and women to lead more productive lives.
At least 20% of each sale made through our website is invested in US non-profit organizations which make real impact in these areas.
