The simplest answer is there are 197 countries in the world, but in total there are 232 territories and regions that have some element of self-governance but are not considered sovereign states. 211 was taken into concentration, but only 177 had credible data to incorporate.

Comprehensive data is only available some countries, but don't worry; efforts are in place to list at least 98% of the world countries.

The main purpose of the research is to inform action, not to scrutinize, to prove a theory, and contribute to developing knowledge in a field of Policing, the Global Police Index 2019 by Tinus Etsebeth states clearly that overpopulation is the largest single problem to the world is facing, he also highlights other significance of research within the index. Namely 'The Deaf and the Police' on page 37, 'Road Safety in Stealth Mode' on page 92, and 'Police Station Zoning' for safety on page 88.

Research is fundamental for improvement.
