It`s a late afternoon, hot and low summer sun at the back, there is huge light contrast…
Shutting without flash in conditions like this will result in pictures with overexposed sky and bad background exposure.
Typically, the photos that we could shoot without a flash would not have deep blue sky – it will be overexposed. Or if we correctly expose sky our models will be underexposed and with ugly shadows. If we want to shoot the beautiful blue sky or azure sunset with dense and dark colors, we must use flesh right …? But I want to use a big and deep softbox to have soft shadows. I want to shoot on aperture no more than f2.8 … Here I face the limitations and problems I would have if I had taken a compact system flash or even a few …
Here are the problems we encounter with the conditions I mentioned:
On a sunny summer day, the average exposure that I must strike is a f16 aperture at shutter speed of 1 / 125s (max synchronous flash speed without HSS function)
The big softbox absorbs and distracts a huge amount of the flash power, so I need a very powerful flash around 600-800ws (compact system flashes have an average power of 50-60ws)
But I want to shoot the aperture f2.8, so my speed should be around 1 / 4000s. To shoot at this speed I need flash supporting High speed sync (HSS).
When using the HSS function of the flash, the impulse is “stretched” – the pulse reproduction time is prolonged ->
Due to the short time that the shutter exposures the camera`s sensor and the flash wave is prolonged, only a part of the whole flash wave falls on the camera’s sensor. Simply, when shooting with 1 / 4000s in HSS mode, the camera captures only about half of the whole flash power. When using Godox AD600 (600ws), I can catch half the power of the whole flash pulse – around 300ws – but that’s not enough for my task …
5. I need a mobile solution with autonomous power supply – compact and light, so I can quickly and easily move it between the rocks on the beach…
Solution is – dual power with 2x Godox Witstro AD600 Mobile battery flash and the Godox AD1200 – portable remote flash head with 1200Ws. With this flash head I combine the power of two flashes 2x600ws and get the power I need. The other benefits – I can use HSS, TTL and 600 flash pulses at full power!
The equipment used for the photo session:
Flashes: 2x Godox Witstro Ad600 + Godox AD1200
Trigger : TTL Радиосинхронизатор Godox X1TC – предавател за Canon
Light modifiers: Преносим параболичен софтбокс 90 см

After everything written above, most useful will be to show you examples of photos with and without a flash:

And for the finish i will show you few edited photos from the photosession ->
