“I don’t know if you all know but this was my grandmother’s house,” announcedAerin Lauder standing at the head of her swimming pool facing the two long tables flanking either side. “She always wanted a white house with pillars and if you know this area you know there aren’t really any houses like that but she managed to find the only one.” The assembled group of women giggled softly under the mint-and-cream-striped canopies. The occasion was a poolside luncheon at Aerin’s Wainscott home, formerly Estée’s, celebrating the second collection of Aerin beauty available on Net-a-Porter. She welcomed her guests alongside cohost Alison Loehnis. But the Net-a-Porter president and the beauty brand’s namesake go back a lot further than the beauty launch. The cohosts attended the Chapin School together and on a post-lunch tour of the house, Loehnis fit right in, her Dolce & Gabbana Majolica-print sundress matched Estée’s collection of Delftware china displayed in one of the living rooms. “I love seeing the house again, I don’t think I’ve been here since I was six years old! The last time I was here, Estée was here!”

Raffia Aerin pouches awaited guests at their table settings along with bunches of late summer dahlias and hydrangeas lining the center of the white wooden tables. Poached lobster salad was followed by various flavors of sorbet—everyone clamored for coconut—berries, and petit fours as well as etched crystal bowls of classic candy: Swedish Fish, chocolate malt balls, licorice allsorts.

Tabitha Simmons, garden party–perfect in pool-blue-and-white Tory Burch, was giddy about the allsorts, “These were always my favorite!” the Brit exclaimed happily while model Lindsay Ellingson’s eyelet romper matched the vermillion hue of the Swedish Fish in front of her. Kelly Klein popped a chocolate caramel in her mouth, “Of course Aerin would think to do this!” said the photographer appreciatively, “Candy in crystal bowls. So great. She always knows how to do it.” That sentiment seemed to be true of every aspect of the afternoon.
