Aber nicht alle brauchen ein ausgeklügeltes Tablet, das sich in einen Laptop verwandeln kann. Einige von uns wollen einfach einen guten, altmodischen Laptop. Im Test bestätigt sich dies: Der Surface Laptop mit i5-Prozessor und 8 GB Arbeitsspeicher führt einen Neustart deutlich schneller aus als das ebenfalls neue Surface Pro mit i7-Prozessor, 16 GB Arbeitsspeicher und Windows 10 Pro.Überbewerten sollte man dies nicht: Auf einem schnellen Computer mit SSD-Festplatte startet jede Windows-10-Version ziemlich zügig. Bei unserem Test zeigte sich auch, dass man den Surface Laptop in knapp drei Minuten auf Windows 10 Pro upgraden kann (siehe Punkt 9).Für Schüler, Studenten und typische Büroarbeit: Definitiv ja. Er fährt dank SSD-Festplatte im Handumdrehen hoch und Software wie Microsoft Office oder Webbrowser starten ohne Verzögerung. Auch Bildbearbeitung stellt unser Testgerät mit i5-Prozessor und 8 GB Arbeitsspeicher vor keinerlei Probleme.

Wie lange hält der Akku? Mit dem Surface Laptop kommt man bei normaler Nutzung (Microsoft Office, Mail, Webbrowser) locker durch den Tag, ohne auch nur einmal eine Steckdose zu suchen. Die Laufzeit ist natürlich stark von der individuellen Nutzung abhängig. Laut dem Schweizer Computer-Magazin «PCTipp» ist die Akkulaufzeit mit gemessenen 14 Stunden und 20 Minuten rund doppelt so lang wie beim Surface Pro 4 von Ende 2015.Im Ausdauertest des auf Laptoptests spezialisierte Magazins LaptopMag geht dem Surface Laptop nach 9:02 Stunden die Energie aus. Dieser gemessene Wert deckt sich mit meiner Alltagserfahrung, wenn man pausenlos mit dem Laptop arbeitet. Für den dünnen und leichten Surface Laptop sind 9:02 Stunden Akkulaufzeit sehr beachtlich. Noch dünneren Laptops geht die Energie deutlich schneller aus. bild: laptopmagMicrosoft verspricht gar bis zu 14,5 Stunden Akkulaufzeit. Das ist zwar korrekt, allerdings wird dieser Wert nur erreicht, wenn man Netflix oder YouTube über Microsofts stromsparenden Edge-Browser streamt. Für ein relativ dünnes und leichtes Notebook wie den Surface Laptop sind aber auch 9 Stunden sehr beachtlich.
