Ein typischer Vertreter dieser Baugröße ist das Acer Aspire 5. In der getesteten Variante (A515-51G-520Q) ist es für knapp 600 Euro zu haben. Das Aspire 5 überzeugt bei Tempo und Ausdauer, leistet sich aber auch ein paar Schwächen. Welche? Das sagt der Test.Der Prozessor des Acer ist ein richtig flottes Modell: Der Core i5-7200U stammt aus Intels aktueller Kaby-Lake-Reihe. Mit zwei Rechenkernen und 2,5 Gigahertz Takt (im Turbo-Modus bis zu 3,1 Gigahertz) liefert er nicht nur für Office-Software genügend Power, sondern auch zur Foto- und Videobearbeitung. Die Speicherausstattung stimmt ebenfalls: 8 Gigabyte Arbeitsspeicher, ausbaubar auf 12 Gigabyte durch Austausch eines Speicherbausteins und eine SSD mit 238 Gigabyte Speicherplatz. Mehr kann man in dieser Preisklasse (noch) nicht erwarten.

Eine Seltenheit in dieser Preisklasse: Das Acer Aspire 5 hat einen zusätzlichen Grafikchip: Der Nvidia Geforce 940MX ist zwar kein Topmodell, aber viel schneller als die Grafikeinheit im Prozessor. Für Spiele mit sehr aufwendiger Grafik, etwa „Battlefield 1“ oder „Forza Motorsport 7“ reicht die Power nicht ganz, aber etwas ältere Direct-X-11-Spiele laufen im Mittel mit 35 Bilder pro Sekunde über das Display. Das reicht für die meisten – nur leidenschaftliche Zocker sollten sich besser nach einem Gaming-Notebook umschauen.

Die beiden neuen Laptops der ThinkPad-E-Serie verfügen optional über eine Radeon RX550 Zusatz-GPU von AMD, die mit zwei Gigabyte eigenem Speicher aufwartet. Der Arbeitsspeicher kann jeweils auf bis zu 32 Gigabyte ausgebaut werden, wofür zwei DDR4-Slots zur Verfügung stehen. Lenovo bietet außerdem die Möglichkeit, jeweils eine maximal 512 Gigabyte große M.2-SSD mit PCIe-Anbindung sowie eine bis zu einem Terabyte große 2,5-Zoll-Festplatte parallel zu verbauen. Der Kunde kann also die Vorteile einer schnellen SSD nutzen, gleichzeitig aber auch genügend Speicher für seine Daten erhalten.
