Design und Verarbeitung
Ein geringes Gewicht geht bei Notebooks meist mit einem etwas labileren Gehäuse einher. So lässt sich das Acer Swift 5 etwa deutlich verbiegen, wenn man es darauf anlegt. Da das Notebook dabei keinen Schaden nimmt ist dieser Umstand nicht kritisch, doch ungewohnt. Das Toshiba-Notebook lässt sich nicht so leicht "verbiegen". Dafür können wir den Deckel mit spitzem Finger im unteren Bereich bis auf die Tastatur durchdrücken. Ziehen wir die gummierten Standfüße ab, ist das Gehäuse 16 Millimeter hoch. Wir können keine lieblosen Spaltmaße entdecken. Schütteln wir das Portégé-Notebook der X-Reihe kräftig hin und her, gibt es keinen Laut von sich. Ein gutes Zeichen. Was negativ auffällt: Selbst auf einer topfebenen Schreibtischplatte erreichen nicht alle Gummifüße den Boden. Die linke, untere Ecke unseres Rezensionsgerätes schwebt ein wenig in der Luft.

Umfangreiches Garantieversprechen
Toshiba glaubt an die solide Bauweise seiner Notebooks und gewährt eine vergleichsweise umfangreiche Garantie. Unser Testgerät wurde nicht nur nach Militärstandards (MIL-STD-810G) auf die Haltbarkeit hin überprüft, sondern auch vom TÜV Rheinland (H.A.L.T.) in die Mangel genommen. Dafür verbürgt sich Toshiba folgendermaßen:

"Sollte das Gerät im ersten Jahr nach Kauf entgegen aller Erwartungen doch zum Garantiefall werden, erhält der Kunde mit der Reliability Guarantee den vollen Kaufpreis sowie das kostenlos reparierte Gerät zurück. Dafür ist lediglich eine Registrierung innerhalb von 30 Tagen ab Kauf nötig."
Dennoch schimmert der Leichtbau ab und an durch, etwa beim Touchscreen. Dieser lässt sich leider nur bis zu einem maximalen Winkel von etwa 120 Grad öffnen und wippt nach Berührung ein wenig nach.

Die Tasten weisen einen mittellangen Hub auf, der auf einen weichen Druckpunkt trifft. Die Klaviatur passt gut zu einem Business-Laptop, vor allem, weil sie bei Bedarf nur ein sehr dezentes Tipp-Geräusch entlässt. Als Privatanwender hätten wir aber nichts gegen einen etwas knackigeren Druckpunkt einzuwenden. Alle Tasten lassen sich in drei Stufen beleuchten. Die Ausleuchtung erfolgt gleichmäßig, nur wenn ihr aus schrägem Winkel darauf schaut, schimmert es durch.
