Der Kickstand und das Type Cover fühlen sich auf dem Schreibtisch wohl, auf dem Schoß, auf dem Ausklapptisch im Flugzeug - dank großem Neigungswinkel findet sich überall eine angemessene Haltung. Zur Not greifst du das Tablet "on the go" tatsächlich als Tablet.

Du schaust zwar nur auf einen 12,3-Zoll-Touchscreen, dieser zeigt dir aber dank 3:2-Format besonders viel Inhalt und beeindruckt mit seiner Helligkeit sowie Schärfe. Ein kurzer Blick in die Infrarotkamera genügt und du wirst per Windows Hello angemeldet. Auch wenn der Intel Core i5-7300U als Zweikerner nicht zu der aktuellsten Prozessor-Generation gehört, darfst du genug Performance für anspruchsvolle Aufgaben wie Bildbearbeitung und Videoschnitt erwarten. Dass der Prozessor mit 15 Watt Abwärme ohne Lüfter gekühlt wird, ist eine beeindruckende Leistung. Bei Dauerlast drosselt die CPU dann natürlich, um Überhitzung zu vermeiden, dein Video-Rendering dauert damit dann halt einfach etwas länger.

Mit dem Tablet-Teil kannst du prima durch Entwürfe swipen, der Touchscreen eignet sich generell gut, um visuelle Arbeiten im wahrsten Sinne des Wortes weiterzureichen. So können Webseiten-Layouts schnell gescannt werden, der Chef oder Kollege kann per Pinch-to-Zoom auch in die Details von Fotos gehen oder sie wischen sich schnell durch eine komplette Slideshow. Dafür ist keine Tastatur nötig und du kannst den Screen von diesem Ballast befreien. Per Pen hast du ja trotzdem noch eine sehr praktische Eingabemöglichkeit.Von der Hardware des Surface Book 2 sind wir ziemlich, aber nicht restlos begeistert. Der Intel Core i7-8650U-Prozessor und 16 GB Arbeitsspeicher kämpfen sich flott durch unseren Arbeitsalltag. Mit der Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 sitzt eine potente Grafikkarte in der Basis, die uns in den meisten aktuellen Games spielbare Frameraten und hohe Detailstufen zeigen kann. Das einzige Problem ist, dass die Games selbst bei angeschlossenem Netzteil den Akku zu etwa 10 Prozent pro Stunde verbrauchen.
