Our joints and bones begin to deteriorate as we age, if we live at an unhealthy weight, receive a knee injury, experience knee joint trauma, become ill, have an infection, and some genetic factors can also end up giving you knee arthritis. When you reach the age of 50 and up you are more likely to wind up getting this degenerative joint disease. Having this disease can cause a person to live their life in severe pain. If you are looking for treatment visit our Lake Elsinore rheumatologist by - Southland Arthritis.

Symptoms include fever, fatigue, swelling of the knee, pain during activities, appetite changes, little energy, losing weight, these are some of the common symptoms of knee arthritis. These symptoms are different for everyone and our Lake Elsinore rheumatologist can help you to find what works for you.

Pain: You may experience pain in the knee that has the disease. If you do not get the proper treatment or put it off the pain can get worse.

Burning Sensation: You could experience a burning sensation in the affected knee area. Actively using the knee can cause pain to get worse. Pain can get worse in the late hours of the day.

Crunching Sensation: As your cartilage in your knee disintegrates, it will start to feel like your bones are grinding or crunching against each other.

Limited Motion: While the joints degenerate they make movement a lot more difficult and uncomfortable.

Difficulty to Use Stairs: Climbing stairs is espescially challenging.

Deformity of Knee: The knee begins to look deformed and unnatural as the bone inside the joint becomes more visible. The formation of what is known as knock knees begins.

Knee Stiffness: Knees begin to stiffen and become extremely hard to move causing immobility and worsens pain.

Inflammation: The affected knee can begin to look red and swollen. The knee can be very puffy and can be known to double in size. This can cause extreme pain and discomfort.

There are home remedies like hot and cold treatments, hot baths or saunas, essential oil massages, and there are also medicinal herbs that work great for arthritis. Knee replacement surgery is becoming common, but should be considered a final solution to treat arthritis. If you have minimal pain then exercise will help. Try to change the type of workout and times you do it while wearing a light brace on your knee. There are many knee exercises used as treatment. Water aerobics are a very common treatment as well. If you are overweight you will be encouraged to begin diet and exercise, being overweight puts more strain on the joints. Our Lake Elsinore rheumatologist by - Southland Arthritis can help you to make the changes needed to your diet. There are special arthritis diets that can help you to better your treatments. There are numerous anti inflammatory medications as well as pain killers that can help to ease the pain and swelling.
