HIGHLAND PARK, Texas – Highland Park philanthropist and financial professional Gary Bassett is celebrating 14 years of service to his community as director and sole investment manager of the Red River Valley Council.

The council, under the leadership of Bassett, has provided over $4 million in donations to persons with disabilities during the past 14 years. According to Bassett, the organization has raised over $170,000 in donations over the course of 2018.

“Contributing such massive donations to those in need is a major victory for the Red River Council,” Bassett stated. “It is the core of everything we do. To give so much back to our community, our members who need the most help, is the greatest fulfillment one can receive while working in philanthropy. I have the utmost confidence that the Red River Council will continue this trend for years to come.”

Within the community, Bassett has served as the treasurer for his Parent-Teacher Organization for seven years. He served as the president of the Reach for the Stars Foundation for eight years, providing over $200,000 in scholarships to young people. Bassett has also been honored as a major donor to the Valley of the Caddo Foundation for eight years.

“I credit my dedication to community service to my service in the Eagle Scouts,” Bassett said. “I have always carried values I gained through my Scout experience in everything I do, and I have no intention of dropping them anytime soon!”

Bassett received his Master of Business Administration from Southern Methodist University. He has held a number of roles within financial institutions and community organizations for several years. He lived and worked in New York City as an investment banker with Morgan Guaranty Trust for four years. He served as a senior vice president at Bank of America for eight years and as president of MicroBank Software for another eight. Outside of professional and community organizations, Bassett is an avid world traveler, golfer, and college football fan.

“I do this work mostly for my son, Michael,” Bassett said. “I want to leave behind a solid, strong legacy for him. I want him to know the value of service, generosity, and giving back to the community who raised you.”
