We all do love music, right. But have you ever sat down and wondered what the song is made of? Do you know why the artist chose to use the Piano Digital rather than the Sax Alto Yamaha Yas 280? Well, it all boils down to the emotion being conveyed through the song. So without further ado, let us take a look at the elements that make up a song.

Sound

In this section, we have timbre, overtone, pitch, amplitude, and duration. Timbre is the colour of the tone described as bright, heavy, light, or breathy, among other adjectives. Overtone is what gives the notes their unique sounds. Pitch is the frequency of the notes that can be high or low. The amplitude is how loud or soft a music is, and lastly, the duration is how long or short the sound is. All these can be set using a mixer from Soundcraft in the touch of a button.

Melody

This is the succession of the notes, and this sequence is broken down into phrases. The melody usually runs from the beginning of the song to the end. Know that part of the song's beat; you cannot get off your mind that might be it!

Harmony

That musical part of the song that feels right and fits seamlessly is the harmonic part of the song. The harmony is ideally a vertical combination of notes that usually form chords. Harmony can also be made out of people singing.

Rhythm

This is the part of the song that you can almost count. The times are usually divided into even numbers that form the overall beat. The next time you are listening to your favourite sound through a Nord keyboard, listen carefully and identify the rhythm's counts.

Texture

Just like fabric, music also has a feel for it. There is monophony that is a single layer, homophony that is a melody accompanied by a Kawai instrument or any other. Lastly, a polyphony has two or more independent voices.

Expression

Lastly, there is the expression that a Shure Sm58 mic can help bring out. This is the tempo, dynamics, and articulation. On an RCF piece, they represent the speed, volume, and manner of notes, respectively.
