You should spot the signs of a dying lawn. Here are some of them:

1. It stopped growing.

Grass basically needs two things: sunlight and water. With these properly supplied to your lawn, it will basically stay green all the time. However, if you notice that your grass isn’t growing and it has remained that way for a long time, it is most likely dead. If grass is dormant, watering it will still allow it to grow. But if there is absolutely no growth, it is probably dead.

2. Your grass started turning red, pink, black or white.

A lot of people think that grass is dead if it has turned brown. This actually isn’t the case for most species of grass. Brown grass is usually a sign that it is dormant. The sign that you should be wary of are red, pink, black or white grass because this usually indicates a fungal infection.

3. It has a spongy feel to it.

When doing lawn care, try checking the texture of your grass. If it feels spongy, it is most likely dead or close to dying. A lot of people think grass has to have a crispy texture to be dead. But if it is green but crispy, it’s most likely just going dormant. Be wary of spongy grass that tends to have a give to it when you press or touch it.

4. You can easily pull it up.

One clear indication that you have a dying grass is if it is no longer holding on to the soil. Try pulling it out. If it immediately uproots, it’s not in a good condition anymore.

5. Sun exposure causes it to wilt.

Sun exposure is a part of lawn care in Vancouver. However, if your grass wilts when exposed to the sun, it means it is close to dying.

What can you do if your lawn is already dead? You can’t do anything to revive it anymore. You can rip it out and then have a new one installed. The best time to have new lawn installed is late in the summer season when it is unlikely to die from too much sun exposure and early in the fall season when the sunlight levels and temperature are more agreeable for the growth of new lawn.

Lawn care in Vancouver can also be done by professionals. If you can see that your lawn is going dormant or showing signs of poor health, get the help of experts such as Dunbar Landscape Services LTD.
