Houston-Based Surgeon Dr. Thomas Taylor Retires After Impressive Career

Dr. Thomas Taylor is a well-known surgeon who worked in the field of academic surgery and recently has hung up his boots.

 
Dr. Thomas Taylor has built a reputation for himself in the medical field over the past three decades. His career as an academic surgeon has brought him from the beginnings of his practice in his homeland England to his adopted home of Texas twenty-five years ago.

His primary focus has been on abdominal surgery as well as the growing fields of laparoscopic and bariatric surgery. Over the course of his career he has registered ten different patents with the U.S. Patent Office. His academic work has resulted in him publishing eight books in addition to 250 research papers.

Dr Thomas Taylor medical career began in his homeland of England where his long-standing interest in scientific fields led him initially to study engineering before leading him to medicine. He finished his undergraduate work while at the University of Edinburgh before carrying on to the University of Manchester to obtain a medical degree. At the Manchester Royal Infirmary, Dr. Taylor trained in general surgery and completed his residencies at the Royal National Orthopedic Hospital and the Royal Postgraduate Medical School. Afterwards, he became a fellow at the Royal College of Surgeons. Taylor’s career as a lecturer began at the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary. He moved to the Manchester Royal Infirmary where he eventually became the Chief of Gastrointestinal Surgery.

By then, Dr. Taylor had attracted international attention and was invited to become a professor at Baylor College of Medicine by Dr. Michael DeBakey. After eight years there, Dr. Thomas Taylor moved on to Saint Joseph’s Hospital in Houston where he became the Chief of Academic Surgery, Chief of Postgraduate Medical Education, and Surgical Program Director.
