While Bulgaria may not be renowned as the best place in Europe to take a road trip, decent roads and general infrastructure make it an incredibly easy place to travel.

A Vacation to Wonderful Bridges in Rodopi Mountain, Bulgaria

Bulgaria could offer quite beautiful resorts that could satisfy everyone's taste. If you have already decided to visit any of the Bulgarian ski resorts in Rodopi Mountain and you want to see something unique and beautiful, you should probably check out the Wonderful Bridges. This location attracts not only Bulgarian tourists but many individuals from various countries too. These bridges are in fact huge marble arches connecting the two banks of the Deep Dol River that comes out from Big Persenk Peak (2091 meters) surrounded by centuries old fir-groves and pine woods. All of them bear the name Erkupriya that interpreted from Turkish signifies: er - ground and kupria - bridge. This is one of the most interesting phenomena in Bulgaria and it's in the centre of Rodopi Mountain on the East slope of Chernatitsa hill.

The elevation of the Bulgarian wonder of nature is 1450 meters. This place is situated south from Plovdiv town and close to Chepelare town. This phenomenon is not only appealing because of its striking appearance but also with its history and origin. In former times, a cave was formed from the marble stocks in the waters of Deep Dol River but it collapsed, probably due to an earthquake. The oceans have taken the dropped splinters and that way they've shaped two uncommon for their attractiveness natural rock bridges. The very first one is larger with span 96 meters and elevation near 70 meters. Its vault towers above the crystal clear water of the river. The marble block, from which it is formed, is 15 meters wide. There's a road up there. From the walls, there are two connected caves and many different Karsts hollows, where lots of birds and bats find a wonderful shelter.

Two-hundred meters farther down you can see the second bridge, which will be 60 meters long and looks like a tunnel. Its height is about 50 meters along with the arch by itself is 30 meters. The bridge begins with a wide entry, which slowly gets thinner and in its end, it seems more like a fissure. On the lower end of this bridge, the river abruptly disappears and comes to the surface after two kilometers. Not far from here in front of the second bridge is the entry of the Icy cave in which the ice isn't melting until late summer.

The seas are covered with wild geranium and Haberlea rodopenzis (called by the locals "the everlasting flower"). The everlasting flower isn't often seen although the states in Bulgaria are good for it. Near these impressive nature formations, you can have a break in a tourist hut called after the name of the location - Wonderful Bridges. Here you may enjoy the gorgeous views under the sounds of the forest. There are some eco paths also that you can go through and breathe the fresh forest air. Underneath the peak of Persenk there's an ancient Roman road which was built from the Ist century B.C.. The Wonderful Bridges is reported to be one of the hundred Bulgarian national tourists' items. The way to the place is long and the road is very narrow and the journey seems to be forever but once you get there you will never want to leave. Bulgaria is a small country that has many lovely spots. Do not be afraid to visit Bulgaria since here are hidden amazing treasures of this character's most beautiful phenomena.
