Standards for plumbing and other pipe materials

Most Industries have national standards or codes that set out the minimum requirements for the material specifications, designs, and implementation of plumbing products.

Pipe manufacturer complies with a set of rules for plumbing materials that outline specifications of PVC dimensions, design, materials, and performance or describe the quality of material, products, and systems.

The standard intends to provide maximum quality, safety, and performance. During the production process, these standards work as directives for manufacturers.

Products and materials used in plumbing

Most Industries have national standards or codes that set out the minimum requirements for the material specifications, designs, and implementation of plumbing products. The durability of a plumbing system is dependent on the quality of the components.

Selecting Suitable products
The regulating authority considers the following factors:

Is it harmful to health for normal use?
Is the product or material suitable for the application or purpose?
Are they harmful or risk materials for the environment, for example:- water, in the first instance, or after the working life of the product or material has expired?

All pipes fitting PPR, taps, and other fittings are used for the supply of drinking water or the removal of wastewater must not contain the harmful substances, and the impact of environmental factors such as heat, cold, and bacteria levels also need to be considered.
Materials used in pipework
There are two types of materials available for water supply systems:

Metallic materials
Non Metallic materials

Both metallic and non-metallic materials are common materials. Galvanized steel, copper, and iron, PVC, CPVC, and PE used for water transportation tasks.

Many advanced technologies and products have been deployed and developed for the construction and water transportation field and work that have made the operations easier and manageable for the manufacturers, end-users, and plumbing companies.

Galvanized steel or iron
These pipe materials are very convenient for drinking water, drainage, wastewater transportation. In the case of slow and static water transportation, galvanized steel or iron pipe are not suitable things. It easily gets affected by the corrosion that makes the water tasteless and disgusting.

Copper tubing
Copper tubing is extremely flexible, copper tube or pipe is also useful for hot water supply systems, heat loss can become an issue if adequate insulation is not provided.

Designers must be sensible that water flows through the copper tube pipings which is must not exceed 3 meters per second, there is a high risk that the internal bore of the piping system will have high flow and velocity scouring.

Chlorinated polyvinyl chloride (CPVC)
Cpvc is widely used in water and sanitary systems for hot and cold water. It is a thermoplastic produced by polymerization of vinyl chloride with additional chlorination.

Cpvc is lightweight, non-toxic, and odorless. It also reduces the growth of fungi, algae, and bacteria. it is designed to withstand continuous operating pressures of 600 KPa at the temperature of 95 Degree Celcius. Pipe fittings are readily cut and joined by solvent welding.

Unplasticized Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC)
PVC is used as a solvent cement jointing system, it is contrasted in mass with steel or iron for drinking-water, but it is a lot lighter and it is not suffering the same problem of corrosion internally or externally as does galvanize steel. The PVC pipe is very light to handle, but also it is too bulky for internal use in domestic buildings.
Polyethylene PE
PE pipes and fittings are of numerous types and design as:-

High-density PE
It will be suitable for manufactured stress-relieved or as extruded products without any maintenance. It is used mainly for drainage applications.

Medium Density PE
It is flexible than another high-density pipe. In this, the method of jointing will be the same as for high-density PE pipe.

Low-density PE
PE pipe material is widely used in the irrigation industries, where operating pressures are very low and a high degree of flexibility and low cost is applied. You can research different locations and sites of pipe companies in India to purchase the above-mentioned pipe material.
