Dennis Roeder has enjoyed great success since starting his teaching career in Sydney, Australia. Here he considers some of the issues he has had to face.

Since graduating from the University of Sydney with his Bachelor’s degree in Education, Dennis Roeder has embarked on a teaching career that has seen him enjoy remarkable success, despite the fact that he is still fairly new to the profession. He understands that he still has a lot to learn and he has committed himself to continued education throughout the course of his career, but here he reflects on some of the challenges that he has faced during his first year or so of teaching and how he has managed to overcome such obstacles.

Communication is something that all teachers need to be skilled in, but this extends far beyond being able to deliver lessons to a class full of children. Good teachers need to understand the importance of communicating with students individually, as this allows them to learn more about their students and their needs, which can be applied to the lesson plans that they create. Dennis Roeder has also needed to develop greater communication skills in terms of dealing with fellow faculty members and senior managers in the school itself.

Creating strong and focused lesson plans is also something that he has been able to do. Applying his college education, Roeder has placed his focus on creating plans that have end goals in mind, with built-in assessments that allow him to determine how well his students are absorbing the information that he provides to them. In doing so, he has quickly settled into strong routines with his students and is able to engage them, regardless of the subject matter.

However, it is in maintaining his passion for the job that Dennis Roeder has excelled. He has always had a desire to help others, stemming from his high school days when he would regularly work with other students as a tutor to help them achieve their goals. Now that he teaches full-time, Roeder has found that his passion and enthusiasm for his work has not diminished in the slightest. In fact, experiencing success has only driven him towards making further improvements so that he can provide the best possible lessons to his students.
