When Boulder acupuncturist, David Scrimgeour is asked how he became involved in Chinese Medicine, he says he had first-hand experience with acupuncture when he was studying Chinese in Taiwan and later when he was teaching in Japan. “What is most important for me”, explains David “is that Chinese Medicine seeks to cure the imbalance in the body rather than just treat the symptoms. Healing happens on a deep level and a higher state of health is restored.” David Scrimgeour is a licensed acupuncturist and a Chinese herbalist who has been treating patients for over 24 years.

Scrimgeour maintains that if you go to your medical doctor with a headache, heartburn, insomnia, hypertension, elevated cholesterol, elevated blood sugar, digestive complaints, pain in your back or your joints, you will be given a different medication for each ailment. And many of these come with side effects that will require additional medications. “You cannot just treat the symptoms,” says David, “you have to understand the root cause in order to bring balance and healing to the whole body. When acupuncture is performed by a true master, it stimulates the body to heal itself, returning the body to homeostasis and improving function on all levels.”

Although David Scrimgeour admits he has seen just about everything in his clinic, he specializes in pain, back pain, sciatica, arthritis, fertility for women and men, anxiety, panic attacks, depression, insomnia, gastro-intestinal disorders, menopause, allergies, asthma, migraines and cancer support.

“People don’t realize how effective acupuncture and Chinese medicine can be at supporting a person undergoing cancer treatments”, says Scrimgeour. “They maintain a higher level of energy and vitality throughout the treatments, there is less nausea, pain, neuropathy and anxiety. Perhaps the greatest benefit is that Chinese medicine offers a powerful support for the immune system to help prevent a recurrence.”

Chinese medicine and acupuncture are also very effective for everyday illnesses such as colds, the flu, bronchitis, sore throats, sinus infections and mono. These acute illnesses are usually resolved quickly without the need to resort to antibiotics.

“It has been my passion to learn acupuncture and Chinese medicine from some of the great masters from around the world, and I feel grateful to have helped thousands of people in the greater Boulder, Colorado area,” says David Scrimgeour. He then recalls an old Chinese saying: "If you want to live into old age, keep learning!"
