They can be set both manually and automatically. These industrial bearings don’t require close control of shaft like most other bearings. Their setting may depend on the location of one moving part relatively to the other one. This way, they can achieve either an end play condition, which allows axial shaft movement or a preload condition, in which there is no axial shaft movement.

Tapered industrial bearings are always mounted with an interference fit. This is used to maintain a certain degree of interference. There are several methods to mount bearings with a tapered bore. You can either measure the clearance reduction or the axial drive-up. Measuring the inner ring expansion is also an option.
