Before the deadline, Opel fulfilled the demanding Euro 6d-TEMP with 79 new powertrains...

About 14 months before the Euro 6d-TEMP became obligatory for all newly registered cars in September 2019, even 79 Opel's powertrains already meet strict new limits. That's why Opel has a leading role in implementing future European emission standards which include actual emissions of exhaust gases measured on public roads.

Petrol and liquid gas oil engines units in accordance with the Euro 6d-TEMP standard are available through the entire Opel range which includes models of ADAM, KARL, Corsa, Astra, Cascada, Mokka X, Crossland X, Grandland X and Zafira - plus harmonized diesel versions.

''Opel's fast transition to the Euro 6d-TEMP is part of our goal to take the leading role in reducing car emissions'', said General Manager of Engineering, Christian Miller. ''The next steps are four electrified models by 2020, including the new generation of Corsa model as an electric model with batteries, as well as the Grandland X as our first plug-in hybrid. By the end of 2024 we will be completely electrified, with a hybrid or electric version on batteries of each passenger vehicles model.''

In addition to various newly developed engines, Opel also adds modern technology to its current powertrains in order to optimize exhaust gas treatment for the Euro 6d-TEMP. Zafira, for example, gets a new version of a 1.6-liter petrol engine with direct injection.

Accordingly, all Zafira's powertrains are now equipped with a particle filter (including a gasoline variant) while the diesel engines are equipped with selective catalytic reduction technology (SCR). Opel's Euro 6d TEMP models continue with Astra. A 1.6 liter gasoline engine that produces 147 kW / 200 hp and 300 Nm of torque, now includes a gasoline particulate filter (GPF). The advanced 1.6-liter diesel engines of the Insignia are also equipped with SCR technology.
