So if you want to ensure you don’t end up with any mould near your carpets, make sure you vacuum regularly; and if you can, use a humidifier rather than a heater (some of these actually send out warm air, so you’re not only going to stay warmer, but your home will be healthier as well). And get your carpets professionally cleaned at the start, and end of winter.

Winter is also a time where you might not get outside as often and you generally keep the windows and doors closed to keep the warm air in, which means the house will be getting more dust and must than any other time of year. To combat any problems that might arise from dust and grime, we recommend investing in a high quality vacuum cleaner.

Run the vacuum over your carpets at least once a week, taking particular care in the hallways and bedrooms where people are most likely to walk. If you get a high powered cleaner, you’re going to pick up a lot more dust than a cheaper brand.

Winter, summer, autumn or spring, you also need to ensure that if there are any spills on the carpet, you clean them as soon as possible. There are many home remedies you can take on board to do this, including vinegar and water.
