Electrical Engineering Technician Program Caters to Various Learners

Posted January 6, 2014 by centennialcollege

This press release focuses on promoting Centennial College's Electrical Engineering Technician program, which is filling the need for technically trained professionals as a technical skills shortage looms in Canada.

Centennial College's Electrical Engineering Technician program takes a complicated field that is concerned with installations, testing, maintaining, repairing, analyzing and troubleshooting specific kinds of electrical circuits, equipment, and systems, and makes it accessible to a range of students.

Whether the student has just graduated high school with at minimum an Ontario high school diploma (or equivalent) or is looking to return to school as a mature learner who wants to work in areas such as power distribution and utilization, electrical power generation, transmission, and protection; industrial telecommunications, electrical maintenance and installation; control systems; services; sales; design and repairs, the offering takes two years to complete.

To even out the differences between students, electrical engineering courses start at a foundational level and progress through the various electrical functions associated with the field. Because Centennial College's Progress campus features labs that are outfitted with tools of the trade, courses also contain practical elements that mimic situations students will commonly encounter once they graduate. Two standout practical experiences in which students partake are producing electrical drawings as well as diagnostics and analysis of electrical systems.

As the manufacturing sector becomes more specialized, the construction industry flourishes, and retirement rates increase, there is currently a technical skills shortage looming in Canada. As such, this program will help fill technical positions in various electrical environments, including those relating to power distribution and utilization; electrical power generation; transmission and protection; industrial telecommunications; electrical maintenance and installation; and control systems. The news also inform people about the Electrical Engineering Technician program in Toronto, which is open to students who are straight out of high school or mature students returning to school.
