[SINGAPORE, 26/10/2017] – Sentosa Sandsation 2017 is Southeast Asia’s biggest sand festival and features beautiful, complex sand sculptures created by some of the world’s most acclaimed sand artists.

Held on Siloso Beach in Sentosa, Sandsational Fun was a three-week event that not only showcased intricate sand art, but also featured sumptuous thematic food and beverages, movies by the beach and the famous Merlion Magic Lights.

Sand Art by Acclaimed Artists

The Sentosa Sandsation 2017 celebrated its 20th anniversary and displayed impressive sand sculptures that were bigger than ever before. Divided into three distinct zones, each featuring a different theme, visitors marvelled at the sand art created by Singapore’s own celebrated and award-winning sand sculptor JOOheng.

JOOheng, along with a team of international sculptors, created 30 unique sand sculptures for the event, with some pieces reaching a staggering 4.9 metres in height. The exhibition space covered a 2,400 square metre stretch of Siloso Beach, where visitors could walk through each space and enjoy a new experience in each one.

The zones include:

• Zone 1: Our Sandsational Singapore (Singapore, Ho Say!) – This zone featured 15 3D sand sculptures inspired by local culture and slang, complete with unique audio elements.
• Zone 2: Sentosa International Sand Sculpting Championship – Zone 2 is the competition stage, where 14 sand masters from all around the world competed for the sand sculpting championship title of 2017.
• Zone 3: Shifting Sand 2 – Zone 3 features interactive sand art pieces designed by JOOheng, where Sentosa visitors could take photographs with the art on display.

Fun for the Whole Family

The Sentosa Sandsation featured fun for the whole family. Along with the beautiful sand sculptures, they enjoyed delicious sand-themed food and got a glimpse of the glowing Merlion Lights, which will be available until late October.

Held from September 1 to 17, 2017, the festival concluded with the announcement of the winners of the sand art competition in Zone 2. The winning entry was Pedro Mira’s ‘Broken Heart’ sculpture, which he said is a symbol of universal experience. The Portuguese artist took home a cash price of S$6,800. In second place came Bob Atisso from Togo, with Wiaczeslaw Borecki from Poland in third.
