Dial Cayman Marine Lab for Enchanting Underwater Experiences

Posted January 6, 2014 by byrnestom

Cayman Marine Lab is helmed by Dr. Thomas Byrnes – a marine biologist and NAUI instructor who has since amassed over 15,000 dives.

Specializing as a small eco-diving operator, Tom not just focuses on the North side dives like Eagle Ray Pass, Tarpon Alley and Sting Ray City, but also offers adventures on the West and South side dives as well. On the west side you can choose to tour world famous dive sites like Orange Canyon or Big tunnels Grand Cayman. The latter presents a spectacular wall dive with a stunning deep archway covered with healthy sponge and beautiful coral life. At about 100 feet, the massive passage can easily accommodate a medium sized truck at the least. This Big tunnels Grand Cayman also features a collection of smaller tunnels, fissures and alleys with many eagle rays and angel fish. Needless to say, this dive suits more experienced divers with good buoyancy control.

Cayman Marine Lab also tries to include exciting anchor drops and dives ‘between’ established moored sites on every dive if possible. At times, you can even get to enjoy Cayman drift diving where you get transported over long distances underwater with the currents caused by the tide. This will give you the unique experience of ‘flying’ underwater and thus even seeing more marine habitats and formations than usual. Again, Cayman drift diving is also advisable for more experienced scuba divers but Tom can assist beginner divers as well.

Apart from this, Cayman Marine Lab also offers one tank dives and spectacular night dives. You can even reserve a private charter boat for a private dive. And, even if you have never tried scuba diving or want to get certified with NAUI or PADI, it can easily be accommodated.

Cayman Marine Lab is the North Wall adventure diving expert in Grand Cayman. It is the only marine eco-tourism operation in the entire Caribbean run by a ‘real’ marine biologist. The lab specializes in a smaller eco-diving experience and even offers PADI, NAUI and NITROX certifications. It has been awarded TripAdvisor’s badge of excellence for 2013.
