In the modern automobile industry, the engineers are giving much preference to make diesel powered engines. Some people believe that it is a basic engine for the nearest future while some believes that it is an obsolete. Whatever is the truth, the diesel engines have been continued in production in order to reduce the dependencies on petrol fuel all over the world.

The history of diesel engine
The first scientist was E. Steward who invented the first engine with ignition for compression without spark plugs. In this engine, the air was compressed and was blown into the combustion chamber. Unfortunately, Steward had not paid attention on checking the efficiency.

By 1890, Rudolph Diesel was worked on the concept of making “fuel-efficient diesel engines”. He invented the engine in order to overcome the difficulty in Steward’s engines. The diesel engine invented by Rudolf was more fuel efficient due to high compression ratio. In 1897, Diesel had patented the design of his invention and named as “diesel engine” later on. In the 1920s, it was the serious approach of diesel engines. Furthermore, Robert Bosch was improved the high-pressure fuel pump that increased the rate of revolution and it avoids the use of bulky and noisy air compressor in a diesel engine.

By 1950s, the diesel engines are mounted on the trucks. Thereafter the car makers also have shown their interests on making diesel variants by seeing the petroleum crisis in the year 1973. Nowadays, European nations are increasing the production and consumption of diesel powered vehicles.

How it works?
The diesel engine is mostly as same as petrol engine. They both have pistons, cylinders and valves. But the ignition system is lack in principle of Diesel engine. In the diesel engine, the air/fuel mixture ignites by the high temperature of air compression. Let’s have a look to the operating principle of 4-stroke diesel engine.
1. 1st stroke: In this stroke, the piston moves down until the blowing of lower dead point and the fresh air from the intake valve.
2. 2nd Stroke: In this stroke, the piston moves up until the upper dead point and the fresh air compressed in the cylinder for multiple time and the temperature which raises up to 700 to 800 Degree Celsius.
3. 3rd Stroke: At the moment, the piston reaches in the upper dead point in which the fuel is injected into cylinder. When the combustion of air acts, the air/fuel mixture expands and the piston goes down.
4. 4th stroke: In this stroke, the piston again goes down to exhaust the gases by opening exhaust valve.

Why diesel engines are popular?
In the conclusion, it is time to discuss about the popularity of diesel engine. It is now popular due to three reasons.
1. First of all, due to ecological regulations in foreign countries and the increasing demand of eco-friendly automobiles, the diesel engines become popular because they are fuel-efficient due to high compression ratio.
2. Number two, the condition of oil fueling quality and maintenance on the regular diesel engine. Without capital repair, the regular diesel engine is capable to operate up to multi-million kilometers.
3. The supercharged and turbocharged engines are now playing the role of “fire-starter”. Many cart manufacturers are there following that way.

Conclusion
So, if you are not sure whether using diesel powered vehicle is good or not, just have a test drive for couple of kilometers and then decide it is good or not for your driving experience and for your pocket. In order to buy used auto part or used diesel engines, you can visit various online stores. But automotix.net is an option by which you can get finest used parts and diesel engine.
