The number of new coronavirus symptoms in India has exceeded 350,000 per day, and the country's steel factories have started supplying hospitals with liquid medical oxygen (LMO) due to the recent oxygen shortage. Diverting oxygen gas from the factories can result in decreased alloy steel grade 11 sheets production. India's largest steel companies have supplied oxygen supplies.
Steel production has already declined, and the government has restricted oxygen supply to steel plants, making it more difficult for plants to operate without oxygen. Even standard furnaces require gas and electricity. It isn't easy to run a plant in these conditions. Human resources are also becoming a concern; labourers have begun moving to their hometowns; if this trend continues, it might become a severe problem. There were also problems about human resources and labour, following the emigration of migrant workers from the country during the past lockdown, with reports of a comparable outflow from some states this year around.
A labour shortage is unlikely to occur unless the situation deteriorates significantly in the coming months. Thus, the commencement of the pandemic now has catastrophic effects for the steel sector, with unprecedented consequences. Idling capacity, labour reductions, and production cuts have already occurred on an unprecedented scale. This is an emergency that is rapidly deteriorating.
