The students have to be of legal age, have at least a 2.0 GPA, and of course, have to be enrolled at least half-time in a degree-granting school that is also on an eligible list.

The students must also have a cosigner who is a U.S citizen and who can take legal responsibility for their loan. To apply, students must have proof of identity, proof of enrollment, and proof of income. Belco will then run a credit report on the student and the cosigner to ensure a loan can be repaid. A government ID, a graded transcript, and some pay stubs can usually serve as the proof needed. Once approved, the borrower can review the loan agreement, and the loan can be dispersed. The money is then sent directly to the school on a predetermined date, making the process easy and seamless.
