Shipping box – Its use and types

Posted November 18, 2020 by bayareaindustrial1

A shipping box is a packaging made of corrugated fibre board, whose bottom and lid form characteristic flaps that can be locked or secured with an adhesive tape.

It is the shipping boxes that are most often referred to as “cardboard boxes”. The most important feature of shipping printed boxes is their ease of assembly thanks to the fact that their two side walls are glued together in the production process. This type of packaging is delivered unassembled to occupy less space.

The types of shipping boxes are:

1. Regular Slotted Container (RSC) - are the most common type of box used in the packaging industry. They are a great choice for multiple packaging applications.

2. Full Overlap Container – is a full overlap container and is very similar to a regular slotted container. The difference is that both sets of flaps overlap one another to fully cover the width of the box.

3. Full Telescope Containers - feature a separate top and bottom that fit over each other. These are made from two scored and slotted rectangular blanks, which helps limit the amount of waste produced during manufacturing.

4. Wrap Around Blank - can be seen as a regular slotted container turned on its side. This type of box provides a tight fit for rigid products, as it is typically wrapped around to product to create the final container.

5. One-Piece Folder - is ideal for packaging items with shallow depths. It’s formed with one single piece of board that provides a flat, unbroken bottom.

6. Five-Panel Folder – is made from a single piece of corrugated material. The fifth panel represents the closing flap, which will completely cover one of the side panels after folding.

7. Die-Cut Self-Locking - container is typically used for shipping small, lightweight items. These boxes are quick to assemble and come either flat packed on a pallet or in convenient bundles that are easy to manage.

8. Roll End Tray with Locking Cover - is a very popular shipping container. It’s formed using a single piece of board that’s put on a die cutter.

Custom printed boxes of Bay Area Industrial are most often used as secondary packaging or in the transport of large-sized items (e.g. household appliances).
